Life Skills Day Program

For those who are preparing to finish secondary schooling, the transition from a regular weekday routine into adult life beyond school can be challenging.

This new phase in life requires a whole range of skills that many of us take for granted.

Working within a small group and led by an experienced facilitator, Johnny H Life Skills supports both school leavers and adults to build the capacity and skills needed for everyday living.

Life Skills in a Nutshell

Life Skills is designed for school leavers and adults.

The program is most suited to those with mild to moderate intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Life Skills is offered from Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 3.30pm, from Johnny’s Place, our dedicated learn centres in Jamisontown (NSW), Fyshwick (ACT), and Upper Commera (QLD).

You can attend one or more days each week over an 11-13 week term block.

We operate during school terms to fit in with families and over holiday periods as well.

Morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea are provided for a fee of $10.00.

Shuttle bus pick up and drop off are available.

NDIS funding can be used to cover the support costs.

Manners & Good Character

I like going shopping for healthy meals. I like baking cakes and bruschetta. I love choosing the recipes and shopping to cook for my family. I learn math, writing, money skills and budgeting. We play The Price is Right sometimes. Johnny H makes feel good and independent.

I enjoy our “Smart” shopping trips, keeping to my budget and learning where to find items on my shopping list. I can now go down to our local bakery with a list that mum does for me to get what we need for home. I’ve even gone down to the chemist to buy things. It makes me feel good within myself to do these things on my own.

My goal is to buy a car and be able to drive to Johnny H. I am being assisted by staff to do my Learners practice online. I’m learning about making a budget and how to pay bills. We also do dance one afternoon a week and that is so much fun, keeps us fit and makes me laugh a lot.
