Getting Work Ready

In the ‘Getting Work Ready’ unit, our primary goal is to equip clients with the essential knowledge, skills, and insights necessary to thrive in the world of work. Through interactive learning experiences, we aim to foster a deep understanding of various aspects of employment, including the diverse nature of work, the dynamics of the work environment, and the fundamental skills required for successful employment. Our tailored approach prepares clients to confidently navigate the job market, enabling them to effectively prepare for and pursue employment opportunities across a range of contexts.

What You Will Learn:

  • Why we work; types and variety of work: Clients will explore the significance of work in society, understanding its various purposes beyond financial stability, such as personal fulfillment, social interaction, and contributing to the community. They will delve into the diverse types of work available as well as the variety of industries and sectors encompassing fields like healthcare, retail, hospitality, technology, and more.
  • Industries and opportunities: This segment will introduce clients to the wide array of industries and sectors within the job market, ranging from traditional sectors like manufacturing and agriculture to emerging fields such as renewable energy and digital media. Through case studies, guest speakers, and interactive activities, clients will gain insights into the specific roles, skills, and opportunities within each industry, empowering them to explore potential career paths that align with their interests and abilities.
  • Personal skills and strengths: Clients will embark on a journey of self-discovery to identify and harness their unique strengths, talents, and personal attributes. Through self-assessment tools, reflective exercises, and peer feedback, they will cultivate self-awareness and confidence in their abilities, recognising how these qualities can contribute to their success in the workplace.
  • Employability Skills: Building on personal strengths, clients will develop essential employability skills sought by employers across industries. These skills encompass communication, teamwork, problem-solving, time management, adaptability, and initiative. Through interactive workshops and real-world simulations, clients will practice applying these skills in various workplace scenarios, enhancing their readiness for employment.
  • Setting Goals: Clients will learn the importance of setting clear, achievable goals to guide their career aspirations and personal development. They will explore goal-setting techniques, including SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound) goals, and develop personalised action plans to track their progress towards career objectives.
  • Motivation: Understanding the factors that drive motivation is crucial for sustaining long-term engagement and success in the workplace. Clients will explore intrinsic and extrinsic motivators, as well as strategies for overcoming challenges and maintaining resilience in the face of setbacks. Through motivational workshops and goal-setting exercises, they will cultivate a positive mindset and commitment to pursuing their career goals.
  • Finding a Job: Clients will acquire practical skills and strategies for navigating the job search process effectively. From researching job opportunities and networking to using online job boards and recruitment agencies, they will learn proactive approaches to uncovering employment prospects that align with their interests and qualifications.
  • Application Forms and Resumes: Crafting a compelling resume and completing job application forms are essential steps in securing employment. Clients will learn how to showcase their skills, experiences, and qualifications effectively through resume writing workshops and hands-on practice sessions. They will also gain insights into tailoring their applications to specific job requirements and utilising keywords to optimise their chances of success.
  • Interviews: Mastering the art of interviewing is crucial for making a positive impression on potential employers. Clients will receive comprehensive training in interview techniques, including mock interviews, behavioral interviewing, and answering common interview questions. They will also learn strategies for presenting themselves professionally, communicating their strengths, and addressing any gaps or challenges in their employment history.
  • Working Safely: Prioritising safety in the workplace is paramount for both employees and employers. Clients will learn about workplace health and safety regulations, hazard identification, risk assessment, and emergency procedures. Through interactive workshops and case studies, they will develop practical skills for maintaining a safe and healthy work environment, reducing the risk of accidents and injuries.
  • Workplace Visits & Guest Speakers: To provide firsthand exposure to real work environments and insights from industry professionals, clients will have the opportunity to participate in workplace visits and engage with guest speakers from various industries. These experiences will offer valuable networking opportunities, inspiration, and practical knowledge about the expectations and dynamics of different workplaces.

All clients attending U-Learn will need to bring in their own prepared food for breaks including a lunch meal unless indicated when booking your space.

Johnny H Nepean Shuttles will not be available for this event. If transport is required please speak to your local region directly.

* This event is designed for active participants with a mild to moderate intellectual or developmental disability.
* This event will be conducted in compliance with COVID safe practices and any vaccination requirements as outlined by the NSW Department of Health.
* Johnny H can only accept booking requests from those whose NDIS funds are Self or Plan Managed. If your plan is Agency Managed, please call 1300 053 001 to discuss your options.

Pricing & Inclusions

The final NDPS price will be determined by the group size and ratio.

The NDIS price covers all 11 weeks of the course and will be arranged through a Program of Supports.
