“Lavender Bay Wander: Discovering Wendy’s Secret Garden & Milsons Point”

Logistics: Participants will use their Opal card to catch a train to Milsons Point.

Overview: Embark on a delightful Lavender Bay walk, a leisurely stroll spanning an hour or more, allowing you to absorb the scenery at your own pace. Starting at Milsons Point, the journey takes you to Wendy’s not-so-secret garden, offering breathtaking harbor views. Perfectly paired with a walk across the Sydney Harbour Bridge, this experience promises a blend of nature, art, and iconic landmarks.

Highlights:

  1. Sydney Comic Walk: Encounter statues celebrating Australia’s humor, including beloved characters like Bib and Bub, Ginger Meggs, the Magic Pudding, Felix the Cat, Luna Park Face, and Blinky Bill.
  2. Wendy’s Secret Garden: Nestled in Lavender Bay, this garden, created by Wendy Whiteley in memory of her husband, artist Brett Whiteley, and their daughter Arkie, provides an ideal spot for a picnic lunch and moments of quiet reflection.
  3. Stunning Sydney Harbour Views: Capture iconic landmarks like the Harbour Bridge and Opera House in the same frame as you traverse the Peter Kingston Walkway.

Itinerary: Commence your journey at Milsons Point, accessible by train. Follow the harbour edge past Luna Park, enjoying the Peter Kingston Walkway adorned with sculptures representing Australia’s comic heritage.

Explore the Lavender Bay area, known as the Comic Walk, featuring famous characters. Take advantage of the picturesque views, perfect for a memorable photo with both the Harbour Bridge and Opera House in the background.

Discover the brick tunnel leading to Clark Park and Wendy’s Secret Garden. The garden, built by Wendy Whiteley as a tribute to her family, invites you to relax, picnic, or find moments of solitude.

Conclude your adventure by returning to Luna Park Wharf. Opt for a ferry ride to Circular Quay or Darling Harbour, or for those with energy to spare, consider a scenic walk back to the city across the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Price includes lunch and snacks, other personal expenses are not included.

Pricing & Inclusions

  • The Participant price covers the cost of food/drinks as outlined in the activity description and any entry/activity costs.
  • The NDIS price includes support and return transport from Johnnys Place.
  • Bookings close one day before the activity unless sold out prior.
  • Please refer to our Cancellation Policy prior to booking.

Shuttles

Johnny H Nepean Shuttles will be available for this event, simply just choose your transport option when booking. Shuttle time and cost will be calculated according to your pick up / drop off point. The cost of the shuttle service is not included in the published predicted NDIS cost. More information about our shuttle service can be found here.

Please note:

* This event is designed for active participants with a mild to moderate intellectual or developmental disability.
* This event will be conducted in compliance with COVID safe practices and any vaccination requirements as outlined by the NSW Department of Health.
* Johnny H can only accept booking requests from those whose NDIS funds are Self or Plan Managed. If your plan is Agency Managed, please call 1300 053 001 to discuss your options.
* Funding will be calculated based on the final attendance numbers and the individual support required to increase the capacity of the individual making the booking to match the rest of the group.
* We predict and aim for a ratio of 1:3 for community-based activities and for those held inside Johnny’s Place, at the rate set out in the current NDIS price guide.
* Final ratios will fall between 1:2 and 1:5.
