Monday: World of Work & Workplace Expectations
Morning – World of Work
Start your week exploring what it means to be part of the working world. Build a strong foundation in employability skills such as teamwork, professionalism, communication and following instructions. You’ll learn how to identify your own transferrable skills and strengths, and discover how they can be applied across different jobs and industries.
Through practical activities and discussions, you’ll also explore volunteering and how it can be a stepping stone towards future employment. Finally, you’ll begin developing your confidence in interview situations by practising common questions and learning strategies to present yourself positively.
Afternoon – Workplace Expectations
In the afternoon, focus on what employers expect in a real workplace. Topics include teamwork, professionalism, following directions, understanding workplace policies and procedures, and managing your time effectively. You’ll also learn how to give and receive feedback, approach difficult conversations in a respectful way, and take responsibility for your actions.
Hygiene and personal presentation are key areas of discussion, helping you understand how to make a good impression and maintain a safe, professional appearance at work. Some sessions may include guest speakers or visits to local workplaces to see these expectations in action.

Who is this for?
The Johnny H Work Readiness Program is designed for people aged 16 and over who are looking to build the skills, confidence and independence needed to prepare for meaningful employment.
This program is ideal for school leavers with a mild to moderate intellectual or developmental disability who want to explore different job pathways, develop real-world skills, and gain a better understanding of work environments.
Sessions run in small, supportive groups and are tailored to meet individual learning needs. Whether you’re just beginning to think about work or already have some experience, this program helps you grow your capacity and take the next steps at your own pace.
We do our best to minimise any changes but plans may be forced to change due to external staffing, school holiday programming and adverse weather.
