What does it take to succeed at work? This session focuses on the day-to-day expectations of a workplace — from showing up on time and following instructions, to being part of a team and handling difficult conversations. Learn what’s expected and how to show up as your best self.

Morning:

  • Explore the importance of teamwork, professionalism, and clear communication

  • Learn how to follow instructions and understand workplace policies and procedures

  • Talk about taking responsibility, being reliable, and managing your time effectively

Afternoon:

  • Discuss hygiene and personal presentation and why they matter at work

  • Practise giving and receiving feedback in a respectful and constructive way

  • Explore how to handle tricky situations like conflict or misunderstanding

Workplace Visit:

  • Visit a local workplace to see expectations in action

  • Hear from staff or guest speakers about what they look for in new team members

  • Observe how employees manage their time, follow procedures, and communicate with others

Who is this for?

The Johnny H Work Readiness Program is designed for people aged 16 and over who are looking to build the skills, confidence and independence needed to prepare for meaningful employment.

This program is ideal for school leavers with a mild to moderate intellectual or developmental disability who want to explore different job pathways, develop real-world skills, and gain a better understanding of work environments.

Sessions run in small, supportive groups and are tailored to meet individual learning needs. Whether you’re just beginning to think about work or already have some experience, this program helps you grow your capacity and take the next steps at your own pace.

Note: Activities in this unit may be adapted to meet individual needs. Accommodations, such as 1:1 support, working with peers, and additional time, can be arranged to ensure a supportive and accessible learning experience.

All clients attending Work Readiness are required to bring prepared food for breaks, including lunch, unless otherwise noted when booking.

Shuttles

Johnny H Shuttles will not be available for this program. If transport is required please speak to your local region directly.

Please note:

* This event is designed for active participants with a mild to moderate intellectual or developmental disability.
* This event will be conducted in compliance with COVID safe practices and any vaccination requirements as outlined by the NSW Department of Health.
* Johnny H can only accept booking requests from those whose NDIS funds are Self or Plan Managed. If your plan is Agency Managed, please call 1300 053 001 to discuss your options.

Pricing & Inclusions

The NDIS price will be updated when the new price guide is released in July 2025.

The NDIS price covers the duration of the term and will be arranged through a Program of Supports.

Participants can bring their own lunch or enjoy a meal prepared in-house for a small fee.
