What to Expect
In our Johnny H Life Skills Day Program our day is split into two: capacity-building activities in the morning and social inclusion/community in the afternoon. Our Term 1 program runs for 12 weeks.
The day includes morning and afternoon tea as well as a weekly menu which is organised by the staff but prepared by the course participants (where suitable) as part of their personal development.
Morning Activity
Our Monday mornings are dedicated to developing self-awareness and building a strong character foundation. Over the term, we’ll focus on a range of topics designed to promote self-understanding and emotional management. These include:
Understanding Self: Explore personal identity, strengths, and areas for growth.
Understanding Others: Learn how to appreciate and relate to people around us.
Understanding Emotions: Identify and interpret emotions in oneself and others.
Managing Emotions: Develop strategies to manage emotions effectively in different situations.
Stress Management: Practice techniques to handle stress and maintain mental well-being.
Developing Resilience: Build skills to adapt and recover from challenges.
Qualities of a Good Character: Discover and cultivate traits that contribute to a positive character.
Responsibilities: Understand and embrace personal and social responsibilities.
Afternoon Activity
On Monday afternoons, we step into the kitchen to build essential cooking skills. Participants learn to prepare simple, nutritious meals, fostering independence and confidence in the kitchen. This hands-on activity encourages creativity and teamwork while promoting healthy eating habits.
We do our best to minimise any changes but plans may be forced to change due to external staffing, school holiday programming and adverse weather.
