What to Expect
Welcome to Thursdays in our Johnny H Life Skills Day Program. Our day is split into two: capacity-building activities in the morning and social inclusion/community in the afternoon. The day includes morning and afternoon tea as well as a weekly menu which is organised by the staff but prepared by the course participants (where suitable) as part of their personal development. Our Term 1 program runs for 12 weeks.
Morning Activity
Our mornings will focus on building essential communication skills to enhance both verbal and non-verbal interactions. Over the term, each day we will focus on a specific topic to ensure clients gain both understanding and practical experience, including:

Giving Clear Direction: Teaches how to provide instructions or guidance in a concise and understandable manner.
Reading and Writing: Focuses on improving literacy skills to enhance reading comprehension and written communication.
Empathy: Builds the ability to understand and share the feelings of others, fostering more supportive interactions.
Respectful Communication: Encourages thoughtful and courteous dialogue, ensuring that all parties feel valued.
Expressing Emotion: Guides clients in recognising and expressing emotions in healthy and constructive ways.
Cyber Safety: Educates on how to communicate responsibly online and protect personal information in digital environments.
Afternoon Activity
On Thursday afternoons, we get moving in a fitness session with Denver. This boxing-based workout focuses on building strength and coordination through engaging exercises. Participants enjoy a fun and supportive environment that promotes physical well-being and boosts confidence.
We do our best to minimise any changes but plans may be forced to change due to external staffing, school holiday programming and adverse weather.
