What to Expect

Welcome to Thursdays in our Johnny H Life Skills Day Program. Our day is split into two: capacity-building activities in the morning and social inclusion/community in the afternoon. The day includes morning and afternoon tea as well as a weekly menu which is organised by the staff but prepared by the course participants (where suitable) as part of their personal development. Our Term 4 program runs for 12 weeks.

Morning Activity

Our mornings are spent working towards increasing our own individual capacity across a broad spectrum of content that varies daily. Over the 11-week term, each day we will focus on a specific topic, ensuring that clients gain understanding and practical experience, including:

Hygiene: Establishes personal care, which is foundational for all interactions.

Appropriate Dress: Follows hygiene to continue focusing on presentation.

Time Management: Prepares clients to effectively manage their schedules, needed for goal setting.

Goal Setting: Once time is managed, clients can set and pursue goals.

Decision Making: Supports goal setting by teaching how to make informed choices.

Personal Space and Consent: Important for respecting others as client interact.

Empathy: Builds on understanding personal boundaries.

Respect: Reinforces empathy and is crucial for healthy relationships.

Relationships: After learning respect, clients can focus on building and maintaining relationships.

Bullying: Teaches how to handle negative aspects of relationships.

Rules and Consequences: Introduces structure and accountability following discussions on behaviour.

Budgeting: Provides practical skills for responsibility and planning.

Gardening: A hands-on activity that can incorporate many of the skills learned, such as planning, responsibility, and respect for living things.

Afternoon Activity

Having tested our brain power in the morning, we’ll get physical on Thursday afternoons with a boxing session with Denver to keep you fighting fit.
