What to Expect

In our Johnny H Life Skills Day Program our day is split into two: capacity-building activities in the morning and social inclusion/community in the afternoon.

The day includes morning and afternoon tea as well as a weekly menu which is organised by the staff but prepared by the course participants (where suitable) as part of their personal development.

Morning Activity

On Thursday mornings, participants alternate between lessons at Johnny H and community access activities. This term, the focus is on managing emotions, performing domestic duties at the respite house in Narrabundah, and transport training in the community.

Emotional Regulation: Learning to manage emotions helps participants develop coping strategies and improves their overall emotional well-being.

Practical Life Skills: Performing domestic duties at the respite house teaches essential skills such as cleaning, cooking, and household management.

Independence: Transport training empowers participants to navigate public transportation, increasing their independence and mobility.

Routine and Structure: Alternating activities provide a balanced routine, helping participants develop time management and organisational skills.

Social Interaction: Engaging in community activities fosters social skills and encourages participants to build relationships and interact with diverse groups.

Confidence Building: Successfully managing emotions and mastering new skills boosts self-confidence and self-esteem.

Responsibility: Taking on domestic duties instills a sense of responsibility and accountability in participants.

Community Integration: Transport training and community access promote integration into the wider community, enhancing participants’ sense of belonging.

Problem-Solving: Learning to navigate public transport and manage household tasks develops problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.

Holistic Development: The combination of emotional management, domestic skills, and community access supports the overall personal growth and development of participants.

Afternoon Activity

On Thursday afternoons we head out to Jump Swim in Fyshwick to get our bodies moving with a swim lesson. After returning to Johnny’s Place for afternoon tea we learn about managing our money and mindfulness practices.

We do our best to minimise any changes to impact but plans may be forced to change due to external staffing, school holiday programming and adverse weather. For those not wanting to join in on either activity supports can be arranged within Johnnys Place, however, these may impact the supervision ratio, and in turn the cost.

Pricing & Inclusions

The participant price covers the cost of food/drinks as outlined in the activity description.

The advertised price is based on a ratio of 1:3 and may change based on the final group size and ratios.

The NDIS price includes support and return transport from Johnnys Place.

Bookings can be made at any time during the term.

Please refer to our Cancellation Policy prior to booking.
