Our Wednesday program focuses on workplace readiness and online safety. In the morning, Why We Work helps clients understand the purpose of work, explore different industries, and identify their personal skills and career goals. In the afternoon, Cyber Safety equips clients with the knowledge to navigate online spaces safely, recognising both the benefits and risks of the digital world. A valuable combination of career development and digital awareness.

Morning Session: Why We Work

The aim of this unit is to enable clients to develop skills and knowledge related to workplace environments. They will explore the reasons people work, gain insights into various industries and occupations, and identify their own skills and strengths. Clients will also begin setting personal goals to guide their journey into the workforce.

What You Will Learn

  • Why Do We Work? Understand the personal, financial, and societal reasons behind employment.
  • Types of Work: Explore different forms of work, including full-time, part-time, casual, volunteer, and self-employment.
  • Exploring Different Industries: Gain insights into a variety of industries and career paths to expand awareness of employment possibilities.
  • Personal Skills and Strengths: Recognise and celebrate your unique qualities, skills, and attributes that make you an asset in the workplace.
  • Setting Workplace Goals: Learn how to set SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound) goals for career development.
  • Employability Skills: Develop key skills such as communication, time management, and teamwork to prepare for workplace demands.
  • Workplace Visits and Guest Speakers: Engage with professionals from different fields to gain real-world insights into the workforce.

Afternoon Session: Cyber Safety

The objective of this unit is to provide clients with the knowledge and skills they need to stay safe in online environments. It focuses on understanding the benefits and opportunities of the digital world while recognising potential risks and learning how to avoid harm.

What You Will Learn

  • Understanding Online Risks: Recognise common online threats, such as scams, identity theft, and cyberbullying.
  • Protecting Personal Information: Learn how to manage privacy settings, create strong passwords, and avoid sharing sensitive details online.
  • Social Media Awareness: Explore how to use social media responsibly and understand the long-term impact of digital footprints.
  • Safe Online Communication: Learn strategies for identifying and responding to unsafe or inappropriate online interactions.
  • Recognising Misinformation: Develop critical thinking skills to assess the credibility of online information.
  • Cyber Etiquette and Responsibility: Understand appropriate online behaviour and how to engage positively in digital spaces.
  • What to Do if Something Goes Wrong: Learn how to report cyber issues, seek support, and protect yourself from further harm.

Activities in both units may be adapted to meet individual needs. Accommodations, such as 1:1 support, working with peers, and additional time, can be arranged to ensure a supportive and accessible learning experience.

All clients attending this program are required to bring prepared food for breaks, including lunch, unless otherwise noted when booking.

* This event is designed for active participants with a mild to moderate intellectual or developmental disability.
* This event will be conducted in compliance with COVID safe practices and any vaccination requirements as outlined by the NSW Department of Health.
* Johnny H can only accept booking requests from those whose NDIS funds are Self or Plan Managed. If your plan is Agency Managed, please call 1300 053 001 to discuss your options.

Pricing & Inclusions

The NDIS price will be updated when the new price guide is released in July 2025.

The NDIS price covers the duration of the term and will be arranged through a Program of Supports.

Participants can bring their own lunch or enjoy a meal prepared in-house for a small fee.
