What to Expect
Welcome to Wednesdays in our Johnny H Life Skills Day Program. Our day is split into two: capacity-building activities in the morning and social inclusion/community in the afternoon. The day includes morning and afternoon tea as well as a weekly menu which is organised by the staff but prepared by the course participants (where suitable) as part of their personal development. Our Term 1 program runs for 12 weeks.
Morning Activity
Our mornings will focus on developing group-related skills and enhancing social interactions within a team setting. Over the 12-week term, each day we will focus on a specific topic to ensure clients gain both understanding and practical experience, including:
Participating in Groups: Encourages active involvement and contribution within group settings.
Benefits of Groups: Helps clients understand the advantages of collaboration, such as shared learning and support.
Similarities and Differences: Focuses on recognising and respecting the diversity within groups, valuing individual strengths.
Teamwork/Working Towards a Common Goal: Develops skills in collaboration, cooperation, and working together to achieve shared objectives.
Conflict Resolution in Groups: Teaches strategies for resolving disagreements and maintaining harmony within a group.
Group Communication: Enhances verbal and non-verbal communication skills for effective interaction and understanding in group settings.
Afternoon Activity
On Wednesday afternoons, we get creative with an ongoing art project. Participants explore various art forms, enhancing fine motor skills, confidence, and self-expression. Starting at the beginning of the term, the project evolves each week, allowing for meaningful progress and a sense of accomplishment upon completion.
We do our best to minimise any changes but plans may be forced to change due to external staffing, school holiday programming and adverse weather.
