Wednesdays: Safety Foundations & Communication Foundations
On Wednesdays, clients will explore two essential units to enhance their safety awareness and communication abilities. The morning session will focus on Safety Foundations, empowering clients with skills to stay safe in various environments. In the afternoon, Communication Foundations will develop effective interpersonal skills that are crucial for workplace success.
Morning Session – Safety Foundations
The objective of this unit is to equip clients with knowledge and skills to ensure personal safety and appropriate behaviours in different settings, from the workplace to the online world.
What You Will Learn
Personal Safety: Understand the right to be safe and explore safety concepts in different settings, such as home, workplace, and community.
Support Networks: Learn the importance of support networks and how they can contribute to personal safety.
Cyber Safety: Identify the benefits and risks of being online, and share strategies to manage online risks effectively.
Introduction to WHS: Develop an understanding of basic workplace health and safety (WHS) concepts, focusing on identifying common hazards.
Safety Signage: Recognise and understand the meaning of safety signs in various environments.
Afternoon Session – Communication Foundations
The objective of this unit is to build clients’ communication skills, focusing on verbal, non-verbal, and active listening skills to improve their interactions with others, especially in the workplace.
What You Will Learn
Talking and Listening: Understand the importance of clear and respectful verbal communication, and practice active listening skills.
Verbal Communication: Learn to use clear, effective verbal communication to convey messages confidently and appropriately.
Non-verbal Communication: Explore the significance of body language and other forms of non-verbal communication.
Conversation Skills: Develop skills to engage in productive and respectful conversations with others.
Written Communication: Gain a basic understanding of effective written communication for workplace success.

Note: Activities may be adapted to meet individual needs, with accommodations such as 1:1 support, peer collaboration, and additional time as required.
All clients attending Work Readiness are required to bring prepared food for breaks, including lunch, unless otherwise noted when booking.

* This event is designed for active participants with a mild to moderate intellectual or developmental disability.
* This event will be conducted in compliance with COVID safe practices and any vaccination requirements as outlined by the NSW Department of Health.
* Johnny H can only accept booking requests from those whose NDIS funds are Self or Plan Managed. If your plan is Agency Managed, please call 1300 053 001 to discuss your options.
Pricing & Inclusions
The NDIS price shown is based on July 2023 pricing. This price will be adjusted based on revised July 2024 pricing once available.
The NDIS price covers all 10 weeks of the course and will be arranged through a Program of Supports.
