What to Expect

In our Johnny H Life Skills Day Program our day is split into two: capacity-building activities in the morning and social inclusion/community in the afternoon.

The day includes morning and afternoon tea as well as a weekly menu which is organised by the staff but prepared by the course participants (where suitable) as part of their personal development.

Morning Activity

On Wednesday mornings, participants will engage in Travel Training sessions designed to develop the skills and confidence needed for independent travel. This program provides practical knowledge and hands-on experiences to help participants navigate different transportation systems safely and effectively.

Week-by-Week Focus:

  • Week 1: Introduction to Transport – Understanding various modes of transport and their purposes.
  • Week 2: Public vs. Private Transport – Identifying differences and learning how to access public transport.
  • Week 3: Road Safety – Recognising road signs and safe pedestrian behaviours.
  • Week 4: Planning Travel Routes – Learning to read maps and timetables for effective trip planning.
  • Week 5: Independent Travel Skills – Practicing boarding, exiting, and paying for public transport.
  • Week 6: Managing Challenges While Travelling – Handling delays, disruptions, and asking for assistance.
  • Week 7: Safety Awareness – Staying safe in different travel environments, including emergency procedures.
  • Week 8: Using Technology for Travel – Exploring travel apps and online tools for route planning.
  • Week 9: Budgeting for Travel – Understanding travel costs and managing expenses.
  • Week 10: Group Travel vs. Solo Travel – Learning the pros and cons of travelling alone or in groups.
  • Week 11: Real-World Travel Practice – Participating in supervised community travel exercises.
  • Week 12: Reflection and Review – Reflecting on learned skills and building confidence for independent travel.

Skill Development: Participants will develop practical navigation skills, improve decision-making, and gain problem-solving abilities related to travel.

Confidence and Independence: By practicing travel scenarios, participants will grow more self-reliant and confident in their ability to travel independently.

Routine and Structure: Weekly sessions provide consistency, encouraging punctuality, responsibility, and routine building.

We do our best to minimise any changes to impact but plans may be forced to change due to external staffing, school holiday programming, and adverse weather. For those not wanting to join in on either activity, supports can be arranged within Johnny’s Place; however, these may impact the supervision ratio, and in turn, the cost.

Pricing & Inclusions

The participant price covers the cost of food/drinks as outlined in the activity description.

The advertised price is based on a ratio of 1:3 and may change based on the final group size and ratios.

The NDIS price includes support and return transport from Johnnys Place.

Bookings can be made at any time during the term.

Please refer to our Cancellation Policy prior to booking.
