What to Expect
In our Johnny H Life Skills Day Program our day is split into two: capacity-building activities in the morning and social inclusion/community in the afternoon.
The day includes morning and afternoon tea as well as a weekly menu which is organised by the staff but prepared by the course participants (where suitable) as part of their personal development.
Morning Activity
On Friday mornings, participants begin by completing the shopping list before heading out to the shops for the weekly grocery shop. Afterwards, they return to Johnny’s Place to cook a meal for all the staff and participants at the centre.
Planning and Organisation: Creating a shopping list enhances participants’ planning and organisational skills, ensuring they can efficiently manage household tasks.
Budgeting Skills: Managing a budget during the grocery shop teaches essential financial literacy and money management skills.
Nutrition Awareness: Selecting groceries provides an opportunity to learn about healthy food choices and nutritional value, promoting better eating habits.
Independence: Engaging in the entire process, from planning to cooking, fosters independence and self-reliance.
Practical Life Skills: Hands-on experience with shopping and cooking equips participants with practical skills they can use in their daily lives.
Teamwork and Collaboration: Working together to prepare a meal encourages teamwork and collaboration, improving social and communication skills.
Confidence Building: Successfully completing the tasks and preparing a meal boosts self-confidence and provides a sense of accomplishment.
Routine and Structure: Establishing a weekly routine helps participants develop time management skills and understand the importance of regular tasks.
Problem-Solving: Overcoming challenges that arise during shopping and cooking enhances problem-solving abilities and critical thinking.
Community Integration: Interacting with the community during the shopping trip promotes social skills and community engagement, fostering a sense of belonging.
Afternoon Activity
Friday afternoon we spend time working on our literacy and numeracy skills.
We do our best to minimise any changes to impact but plans may be forced to change due to external staffing, school holiday programming and adverse weather. For those not wanting to join in on either activity supports can be arranged within Johnnys Place, however, these may impact the supervision ratio, and in turn the cost.
Pricing & Inclusions
The participant price covers the cost of food/drinks as outlined in the activity description.
The advertised price is based on a ratio of 1:3 and may change based on the final group size and ratios.
The NDIS price includes support and return transport from Johnnys Place.
Bookings can be made at any time during the term.
Please refer to our Cancellation Policy prior to booking.
