Thursdays: Starting Work & Managing Self
On Thursdays, clients will engage in two essential units designed to support their personal and professional growth. The morning session will focus on Starting Work, providing clients with the skills and knowledge to succeed in a workplace environment. In the afternoon, Managing Self will help clients develop the skills needed to make positive decisions and manage their emotions and actions.
Morning Session – Starting Work
The objective of this unit is to provide clients with opportunities to develop the knowledge and skills necessary for success in the workplace. This includes learning about workplace expectations, communication, and strategies for overcoming common challenges.
What You Will Learn
Personal Presentation and Hygiene: Clients will understand the importance of maintaining a professional appearance and personal hygiene in the workplace.
Probationary Periods and Performance Reviews: Learn how to navigate probationary periods and performance reviews, and how to succeed in these evaluations.
Difficult Conversations: Build skills for handling challenging conversations with coworkers or supervisors in a productive and respectful manner.
Ethics in the Workplace: Gain an understanding of ethical workplace behaviour and how to make decisions aligned with workplace values.
Conversation Skills: Practice effective and respectful verbal communication in the workplace.
Dealing with Conflict: Learn how to resolve conflicts constructively in a work environment.
Asking Questions: Recognise the importance of asking questions to ensure clarity and understanding in the workplace.
Afternoon Session – Managing Self
The objective of this unit is to help clients develop the ability to make positive decisions and understand how their choices affect themselves and others. Clients will focus on taking responsibility, managing emotions, and advocating for themselves.

Making Decisions: Learn how to make informed, positive decisions that lead to personal and professional growth.
Self-Advocacy: Build confidence in advocating for your own needs and rights in different situations.
Communication: Develop strong communication skills to express yourself clearly and effectively.
Resilience: Learn how to bounce back from challenges and build resilience in both personal and work environments.
Money Management: Gain a basic understanding of budgeting and making wise financial decisions.
Healthy Life Choices: Explore how making healthy lifestyle choices can improve overall well-being.
Stress Management: Discover strategies for managing stress and maintaining a balanced life.
Managing Emotions: Learn techniques for managing emotions and building emotional intelligence.
Risks and Decisions: Understand how to assess risks and make informed decisions.
Confidence: Enhance self-confidence through practice and positive reinforcement.
Social Skills: Develop social skills that will help you engage effectively in both personal and professional interactions.

Note: Activities may be adapted to meet individual needs, with accommodations such as 1:1 support, peer collaboration, and additional time as required.
All clients attending Work Readiness are required to bring prepared food for breaks, including lunch, unless otherwise noted when booking.

Johnny H Nepean Shuttles will not be available for this event. If transport is required please speak to your local region directly.

* This event is designed for active participants with a mild to moderate intellectual or developmental disability.
* This event will be conducted in compliance with COVID safe practices and any vaccination requirements as outlined by the NSW Department of Health.
* Johnny H can only accept booking requests from those whose NDIS funds are Self or Plan Managed. If your plan is Agency Managed, please call 1300 053 001 to discuss your options.
Pricing & Inclusions
The NDIS price shown is based on July 2023 pricing. This price will be adjusted based on revised July 2024 pricing once available.
The NDIS price covers all 9 weeks of the course and will be arranged through a Program of Supports.
Bookings close 3 days before the activity unless sold out prior.
